Former Governor of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), a policy-based financial institution 100% owned by the Japanese government. In his previous position, he served as the Managing Director (Outside Director) from April 2012.
Prior to joining JBIC, he held various senior executive positions in the private sector, including but not limited to: Chairman and CEO of Fuji Fire and Marine Insurance Company, Vice Chairman of AIG Japan Holdings and Corporate Senior Executive Vice President of Sony Corporation.
He started his career with Sumitomo Bank (currently Sumitomo-Mitsui Banking Corporation, SMBC) in 1967 and served as the Managing Director in the late 1990s. In his career at Sumitomo Bank, he stationed in New York for 13 years since 1985, during which he served as, inter alia, the President Sumitomo Bank Capital Markets and Managing Director of Sumitomo Bank heading Americas and Europe. He holds extensive knowledge about cross-border financing and international capital markets.
Graduated from Tokyo University, Faculty of Law in 1967, and earned Diploma from Institute of International Study and Training in 1971, the graduate school founded by the Japanese government.
